Thought I'd try a post "on topic" since there haven't been very many lately.
Hi. My name is Renie and I'm a pair driver. (Sounds like I'm at an AA
meeting <VBG>).
Just finished 2nd day of lessons with Hardy Zantke. He was here in Ramona
for a club meeting and was talked into staying overnight and giving a few of us
lessons. Turned out all but one who could bring horses/ponies on short notice
were pairs. We had Hardy's pair (who are here on vacation while he is doing
all his traveling to Austria, Indiana, France & who knows where else...). Ray
driving his new to him, Haflinger pair. Diane driving her homegrown appy
pair. Teri driving her mule, and me driving my newly put together Welsh pair.
It
was lots of fun, and it's always great to watch others taking lessons
especially if they are driving multiples! Usually any lessons I get to watch
are
singles which is good but not as much fun as watching Hardy work his pair in
dressage and cones, and then the other pair lessons plus my own. Teri got 2
great
lessons on cones and hazards with her mule and was grinning from ear to ear as
she drove with hardy for over an hour working his pair.
Hardy made a nice comment about my dressage field so I thought I share...
It's set up so we can drive it using 40 x 100 or 40 x 80. I use traffic cones
to
mark every 10m. I use two 2.5 inch, 20 foot PVC pipes at each end to mark
10m in giving us a great visual for the 80m marks. The cones set at 10m on the
ends mark the 100m. By having the pipes in off the sides about 5 to 6 meters
you can drive past them into your corner to use the 100m. No matter what test
you do the pipes don't get in the way. It really works well when you have
different drivers working at different levels. Hardy likes it because he can
have the Prelim drivers do a 5 loop serpentine for training on bending and
still
use the 80m for everything else.
Hope I didn't bore you with my "Boy, I had fun today note". Happy driving.
