[drivingpairs] draft horse talk

I too love to watch the draft horses at the fair. My favourite is the log
skid done with a team (a pair). The way the horses listen to their teamster
(?) to take each step just awes me. One step sideways, one step forward,
whatever they are asked for. And so patient. And at the end when they have
to pull 3 feet, then 2 feet, then 1 foot. Some of them end up so close it
just amazes me. I think I'm going to try to do some of that work with my
horses. It could only do us all good to learn such patience.

"I do like to watch draft shows. We were watching one a few years ago. The
young driver of a Percheron 6-up had just won the class of 6's. When he
pulled up to get his ribbon, since it was the last class of the day, he
asked the judge if he would like to take a turn with them. The old guy
handed his walking cane to someone next to him and climbed up on the seat.

He proceded to drive them around the ring, then did a diagional across the
ring, with every horse on the bit, in step, in an extended trot! The kind of

performance that takes your breath away!

I doubt that he would have a problem with light horse dressage."
