[drivingpairs] Re: carriage wreck today

I have spent a lot of time working my pairs with a sled....have often thought
of a quick release that would free them from the sled, permitting me to step
off and circle them. I use four in hand leader reins for long lining and this
sort ofd thing to give me a chance to control things...

There are two schools, I think, hitch to wheeled vehicles to get them used to
going, hitch to sleds to get them into the harness.

Since so many accidents happen while walking, trotting seems to focus them more
on what they are doing rather than what is going on around them. Sleigh bells
even in the summer help, the recurrent noise is comforting, pulling a sled
rather than going along with a carriage seems to get their attention more
inward focused....sort of like in the army when the march loses all focus
except...when are we going to stop!
