[drivingpairs] breeching and checks

Sorry to be jumping in late on this discussion.
After I broke my ankle ground driving a mini (got
dragged and let go of the reins only to have the loop
of the reins catch my ankle and snap it) I want to
support Dana in her efforts to get miniature horse
folks (or breed ring in general) to let go of their
checks and use breeching.
I try and try to get folks to come to the CDE's and
the only VSE people that seem to be the most receptive
to it are people like myself that come from a bigger
equine background.
As for the no breeching - I have a pony size donkey
with a broken tail thanks to crupper and no breeching.
I always fling that into the no-breeching folk's
face. I have heard other horror stories about
broken-off tails and twisted backs of minis and small
pony/donks.
I think it just boils down to ignorance and when you
can use a check or breeching and when you cant.
BTW - most breed folks that use side checks do so
because it puts the equines nose more easily on the
vertical and falsely arches the neck.
