[drivingpairs] brass bits

Brass, being a soft metal, has two risks, breaking and bending. Certainly, one
can bend steel as well, but the force needed suggests that flesh and bone might
give before metal. There is a reason the old brass hames were close-plated
brass on steel, brass is not as strong. In addition, I have encountered
numerous faults in cast brass pieces, something I have rarely found in
steel. There is a third risk, one I am not sure of its validity, and that is of
ver de gris. I have always been told that this dark green substance that
collects on brass is toxic. I know I have experienced unpleasant sensations
when inadvertantly ingesting the stuff.
