Merrie, I have a spring loaded pole and a yoke like yours. I hitch my
ponies as close to the carriage as I can without the ponies hitting the
wheels with their feet. In front, the ponies are attached to the yoke with
tack shackles with only the distance of the shackle between the breast
collar and the yoke. There is very little play anywhere. So when they
trot, the pole is "bounced" WITH the ponies. This is how I was taught, and
I've been doing it this way since the dark ages and it works for me.
