[drivingpairs] Re: another questions about britching and saddles...

Just some thoughts on adjusting harness. I have recently had pressure spots
occur with my pair harness. On one horse. I always use breeching since I
can't always use the brake effectively. The cause of the pressure. When
going downhill, horses hold the carriage back with breast collar and
breeching attached into breast collar as the breeching holds the carriage
the false martingale pulls from the girth as the breast collar goes forward
and the back part of the saddle tilted and caused pressure. My girth is
always loose.

To fix, I changed saddles on the horse to one that was wider and more
suited to single driving. I lengthened the backstrap so there would be a
bit more room when going down a steep hill. On another note I could easily
remove the crupper because it is so loose at this point since the hip strap
takes much of the weight on brakeing.

I drive on hills everyday. I'm thinking of trying the yankee breeching
which hooks into the girth and then the force of the false martingale would
counter act the force of the breeching and I think the saddle wouldn't tilt.
My leather harness uses yankee breeching.\
