more
handle on them...
Curious...
I certainly defer to your expertise Hardy...
I appreciate the different view point...

P.S. >The only downside=20
with this could be, that you need to know how to drive pairs,
Of course this could be the most important sentence in the post... =

I would do more pair work than single (but then, I'm a pairs driver so =
am=20
precudice), but in the pair, you can make the older horse do almost ALL =
the
work,=20
and the youngster just goes along, and doesn't need to do any pulling, =
which
in single he has to do. But in the pair, make his traces a hole longer =
and=20
his rains a hole shorter, and then he just coasts along, doesn't need to
pull,=20
but learns everything else, PLUS horses are herd animals, they like to =
be=20
together, much less scary out there to be in a pair than as a single. I =
am
used to=20
starting all youngsters in the pair, rather than single. The only =
downside=20
with this could be, that you need to know how to drive pairs, but once =
you
do,=20
then I think it's much easier, safer, and better for the youngster. If=20
necessary, take some pairs lessons from somebody who is good with pairs =
and
knows his=20
stuff there. (No evener! Starting out go FORWARD to get out of any =
possible
seesaw, if they start unever, so don;t hold back, but go forward. Make =
large
wide turns, in turns make the inside horse pull, even if it's the =
youngster,
that=20
way you get proper bending from the start, have your coupling reins =
adjusted
properly, make them travel straight, use the whip on the outside, be =
calm,=20
etc)
