Sterling,
We're talking about two different things. The web site and the list are two
separate entities, on different servers.
The Web Site: Advertising on the web site is free to members for the first two
ads. After that, it's only $10 per ad and ads run indefinitely. For non
members it's $10 for each ad. I periodically check to see if the item has
been sold, and if it has, or I don't get a reply, I take the ad down.
Otherwise, it stays up. I've never balked at advertising carts, which are
obviously for singles, on the web site.
Horses are a different matter. If we allowed untrained or "potential" horses
to be advertised, I would have to buy more pages to fill because of all the
requests I get to advertise those types of horses. There is only one
requirement for advertising one or more horses. That requirement is:
Horses must be finished driving horses with experience driving with other
horses, either in a pair or more.
The list: We don't allow advertising on the list except when we announce a
sale. During the sale, there are no restrictions on what members wish to
advertise. We even allow members to advertise for someone who isn't a member.
We set a starting date and an ending date for the sale. If the sale is
over, then it's over...period.
If we allow someone to post a short note with a link to where they have items
they'd like to sell, then where would it stop. I don't think that's a
practical option. There's a page on the web site especially for links to
members' web sites. Members can use that.
We aren't in the business (non-profit, that is) to advertise. We only offer
it as a courtesy to members. Noel and I set this whole thing up because of our
love of driving pairs and we wanted to give those of like interest a place to
learn, exchange ideas, help each other solve problems that arise in this
pursuit and to share our good times and the fun we have driving our horses.
If your question was about not being able to advertise an inexperienced horse
because of posts in the archives concerning training a novice with an
experienced horse, that's well and good. That's what the list is for.
Discussing is very different than advertising.
So, to answer your question: No. Please don't post your web site as a means
of advertising. Send it to me, and I'll have it put up on the member web
sites page.
Did you know that most driving clubs offer free ads to members?
Have a great day.
