[drivingpairs] a hardy question....loose cheek bits...

hi hardy,

in your last post you talked about a few drivers an referenced
pictures in bob mischka's book. i looked at them all but one picture
made me think of another question about driving multiples...

in the alan aulson top picture on pg 14 you see his nice pair going
thru a water hazard. if you look closely at the liverpool on the
near horse you see that the inside bit cheek has rotated in a line
with the pull of the reins. this in theory should be a good thing,
shouldn't it, but in the picture you see that the leading edge of the
bit ring could be REALLY pinching the horses lips/face.

is there an argument for a fixed cheek bit in pair driving because of
this?

if this has been discussed before forgive me.... i'm new to this end
of the sport ... that's my excuse and i'm sticking to it <G>!!!
