Saturday, I hooked up my pair to an antique road wagon with a pole and
yoke. The pole is an original which I restored to it's original
configuration. The yoke is also an original. There is a little strap
which is underneath the pole near the pole head. From the angle of the
leather that the yoke has on it which fits over the pole head, it was
meant to be fitted under the pole. The strap is attached to the pole
and yoke with a buckle arrangement. My question is " Is their a
standard way of mounting the yoke to the pole?" Most pictures show the
yoke on top of the pole, however with short horses it may be hard to get
the pole to be level or slightly higher because the yoke would be
snugged up against the bottom of the collar. I don't think that this is
particularly desirable although I can't think why not. I suspect that
the yoke can be placed either on top of or under the pole. Most
pictures show the yoke on top. Inviting comments.
