[drivingpairs] Why Achenbach/"coachman style"?

Hi everyone!
I was just thinking about my driving and I was wondering why it seems so
important to me to hold the reins Achenbach style? Nearly everyone I see
driving holds the reins "two handed". Really good dressage scores can be had
holding the reins two handed. You don't need to know the Achenbach style to
shove the reins into you left hand for the one handed circles and
serpentines. So what is the big deal? Is Achenbach past it's prime? Is it
archaic? What is the point of learning how to do it? Obviously two handed is
more effective because everyone does it.
I would love to hear (I guess that would be see) any and all points of view
on the subject.
