[drivingpairs] Re: What I do and what I sell...

Thank you to the Pairs List owners; this has been/is a very interesting and
informative subject!
Introducing myself--I am Margo Cox-Townsend, 64 yr. old, widowed, with a
lifetime horse obcession! After spending my ages 6, 7, and 8 summers visiting
my cotton-farmer uncle and aunt in Texas, riding (and driving, when someone
would hitch him for me!)a borrowed shetland --I have owned my own horses since
age 9, riding(mostly Western, with a smattering of Hunter-type jumping along
the way)-began training my own at around age 15. I have run barrels and poles
as a member of my college rodeo team(and earlier), dabbled in trick riding,
ridden cutting horses, done REAL ranch work on both horse and mule, and done
the breed show ring in QH, Paint, and Pinto, with special interest in reining,
western riding, and the like(I quit that show ring when 'peanut rolling' got
well established--UGH.) I still keep a Paint(APHA)mare, and trail ride only-I
love to go on the Pony Express Ride in Lincoln County, NM-not too far from
me-annually.
I 'got into' miniature horses in 1984, after having wanted to for several
years, but finding none available within 'shouting' distance of me--until then!
I am no longer breeding, but I still have 8--7 AMHA only, and one maximum
B(meaning 38", or in the 'real' horse world of measurement at the top of the
withers, 39"-max VSE height, according to ADS)--I got her just last year to be
able to be more participative in local carriage club outings. All but two of
them are well-trained to drive; of those, I trained 4 --and I am currently
starting one of the not-yet-driving two-- a 5 yr.old mare. I did the mini show
ring thing, and have several AMHA(American Miniature Horse Ass'n.)National Top
Tens, after being an exhibitor at several National Shows between '91 and '02.
I got fed up with, and have given up, the miniature horse breed show ring. I
have two different pairs--and am saving for a mini-sized, marathon-type 4
wheeled vehicle. (I don't expect, at my age and with limited financial
resources,to be able to actually travel to/compete in any 'real' (VSE)CDEs(the
nearest CDEs are a full day's drive), but would just like something 'tough' so
I can drive my pair off-road(necessarily) around my hilly neighborhood, and on
carriage club outings.
  Since I'm no longer breeding, I really don't 'sell' anything-although I do
have a back-to-back trap, made for me by the late Jack Stewart of Golden
Carriage-and with a team pole, that I'd like to sell-lovely vehicle, but I'm
just not using it, and if it sold, I could be closer to getting my
'cross-country' vehicle, and be regularly enjoying driving one/both of my
little pairs of Miniature horses!
My regards to all who do and enjoy this 'multiples' driving--wish I had
started MUCH earlier in my life!
