[drivingpairs] Weekend Clinic

Thanks, Kathy, for describing the weekend clinic with Larry. Very nice. Makes
me wish I would have been there. It's so much fun to work together and not
being on ownes own all the time, and it is great to share ideas with Larry.
Now,
one idea that I can contribute to what you wrote about the horses being a bit
unhappy when not in their usual position: For that reason, I switch mine
around all the time. Sure, I do have the position in which they go best and
that's
what we do at a show, but at home for training, everybody has to do
everything. I realize that that's not always possible, and some wheelers will
not go as
leaders and vice versa, but then at the very least, all are driven in pairs
quite a bit too, so leaders are learning to pull too, and wheelers are learning
to work without the leaders in front of them. It makes them all better horses
and better listening to the driver, as sometimes we do need the leaders to
pull, but more importantly, I think it's very important to have the wheelers
fully listen to the driver and his rein and whip aids, and not just following
the
leaders. Only then can you get the wheelers to go properly in the luge and
bend properly. That's very hard to do if they are always in the team, but I
find
that if they are driven as a pair, they can learn that much better.
Good luck to your great team. I am looking forward to seeing you again next
one day.
Hardy
