[drivingpairs] Weekend

Hoping to get some horse stuff done this weekend.
Spent the last couple weekends getting winterized. I
guess you could call tiling the paddocks for drainage,
horse work, but not the fun stuff. We are missing the
snowstorm, too far north! Yeah! Supposed to be about
40F most of the weekend, pretty nice. If not, the
windless, dry, harness room always waits! I need to
gather up stuff to sell. Get it advertised as
Christmas gifts!

Husband has been working the new horse a little on
long lines. Bard is getting a glimpse of the driving
world! Having a hard time believing that stomping his
foot, doing the SLOWS, mock spooking, is NOT GOING to
get him out of work! Used to work with those little
girls at the stable!! Other than that he is coming
along well. Ignored son welding his truck, air
compressor tools after 3 shy-away tries. DARN outside
reins. He has a nice big, walk stride, moves along,
when paying attention. Doesn't seem to mind the
harness anywhere, better response to voice commands
each session.

The other two stooges stand watching, waiting for
Bard to come back and play. I am hoping osmosis
works. They will see him in harness, working, hear
directions, almost be trained when we get them out!
Young horse, 4yr old, has gotten a lot more attentive,
friendly in the last couple months. I think it might
be that he needs a thinking job, beyond pushing the
yearling around. The yearling has been watching
driving since born. He is going to be one of those
born broke, horses, in another couple years. Very
calm and accepting. Maybe having 5 older geldings
pushing you around removes all ego? Used to being
told what to do by everyone?

Brian is getting more fit, jogging in his winter
clothes on the long lines! If the wind doesn't blow
too hard, the cold is pretty nice for working horses.
Does keep the front of the barn smoothed out nicely
when they can drag tires.
Deer gun season ended last Sunday, so we may be able
to go back on the road again. I clipped a 6pt buck
today. No damage to my car, THANK YOU! I saw buck
coming, slowed way down, but couldn't stop, just
touched him behind. Buck hit the pickup truck in the
opposite lane, smashed in the whole driver's door and
box side, blew the window glass all over the guy. Man
did not appear hurt, alone in the truck, but killed
the buck instantly. Fair size, over 150#. Lots of
deer accidents, we just have so many deer around.

The pole, harness, and blower (More Power!)threads
have been fun! Glad to hear of others working on
their new combinations. Sure learn something every
time we discuss things.
