[drivingpairs] Re: Training - Reply

Hi Hardy,
Yes, I guess I should have been clearer. My dream is having a
well trained and safe pair. Here in New England without an indoor, I
pretty much stop working my stock in the winter. Too hard on my old
arthritic joints. The ice and cold have been terrible this winter. Just
slugging to the barn several times a day has been a huge chore.
I am not sure to what level of competition is going to be my end
goal. I am one of those people that takes it a day at a time. I am a
school teacher so I have the summers off. My plans are to get as much
mileage on the girls trail driving as I can this summer. A few Welsh
shows (pleasure) and then maybe a training level event in the fall IF I
can find one.
My husband just 'retired' this year. After nearly thirty years,
he left MIT. He is working three days a week at another company but
even with his two days off it has become an issue. I am hearing things
like "So, when can you retire?" IF I 'retire', it puts a totally new
twist on what I want to do with the pair or pairs of the future. We are
also greatly looking forward to a foal this year that will be full
siblings to one of my pair. SEE why I need to take things 'one day at a
time'. So many twists to the future.
I think your estimations of time the have an advanced level pair
is very valid. Just don't know how quickly I will be able to achieve or
want to achieve this goal. I do hope by the fall to have a decent pair
that is starting to work together. I want to have fun and enjoy myself
and hopefully get my husband back involved in driving. SAFE and well
trained may take me another year.
Yours,
Claudia Novak
