Hi all,
I am excited about the Freightliner Sprinter. It is exactly what I was
looking for and couldn't find when we suddenly needed a new truck last winter.
We
bought a new Chev 2500 work truck that we really do like but it is just like
all other good trucks - low milage and not a lot of flexibility on how it is
used....ie bumper or gooseneck trailer. At the time I checked everywhere to
find a heavy duty work van big enough to get my buggy in and then camp in when
we
got where we were going...couldnt find a thing.
Last week I saw a Fl-sprinter.2500..found a dealer and drove one.. They are
sold mostly as fleet trucks for UPS, Fed-ex, electrical companies etc. They
have a Mercedes engine (very quiet diesel) and back doors that open 180
degrees (around the tail lights) and loads of inside room. The wheel wells are
right
at 50" (same as any full sized PU)- we measured with a tape and got 49 /7/8+
which with the rubber tires on our buggy could be squeesed in. It gets 27
miles to the gallon (van loaded - don't know pulling trailer) and pulls
5000lbs...for the 2500 I know this is not enough for some of you but it would
handle
our stock trailer and 2 haflingers comfortably. You can get them different
heights -64" or 73" and wheel bases and also a 3500 with duallys. The 2500 we
looked at was in the low $30,000's.
If I had found this van last winter we would have gotten it instead of the
PU. As it is I will have to wait several years ($$$ you know)- but then I am
deffinitely going to get one.
Just thought someone else out there might be interested in the same type
thing I wanted.

P.S. The web site for the van is fl-sprinter.com
They are powered and designed by Mercedes-Benz
