[drivingpairs] Things, things needed, my pair

Well, I have my pair about ready to show. Was going to show them at Blackprong, went out to hitch up and get ready and discovered the older girl had stepped on her front heal with her hind foot and had a nasty flap and bruise, she was not wanting to walk even! So I doctored her up, thought we could save that little flap of heal but it wouldn't knit, so had to cut it off the next day. Two days later she was of course tearing around, tail and head up as if nothing was wrong, the little B.$^$#!

So I called the show and they confirmed I could switch to single horse, had to wash the carriage and harness, hitch up Ellie who was not wanting to bend since being in the pair! And she was wired for some reason! Anyway, we got through dressage, ended up 7th, double clean in cones. I thought she was a little gimpy for some reason, maybe her knee injury from Sept. when she fell and gouged out her knee? WE went slow in marathon so I wasn't cranking her in the turns, kept our 7th place, I was happy with that. We just had her xrayed at the vet, and her knee is perfect! (sigh of relief). Turns out she is not shod properly for a toed in horse, she has flat shoes causing her to pinch her coffin bones as she tries to roll off the toe off centre. So we have to change her shoeing to eventer steel shoes, and he says she'll be fine. I sure hope he's right. So they both have off, and we'll try again in January Blackprong!

Meanwhile, yesterday we bought a coyaltix spider for presentation. It has the roller swingle trees and I don't think my trace ends are right for it, it has the D ring ends and tab with a slot also? Are there trace extensions available with the proper ends, or do I need new traces? Also, the fittings are brass, I need stainless. Should I paint the steps, hubs etc. black, or do electroplating in nickel? Any other suggestions? Does anyone have a set of lamps for sale in silver? So many questions, so little time! 6 weeks to the next show.

On another note, I got in a lesson with Georgina Frith at the Clinic at Blackprong, and really enjoyed it! She had some very good pointers for me!

The Blackprong show was fun, the new rings are excellent! Wow, what a place to train! All you northerners who can afford the time off and the expenses really should come down to Florida at least once in your life for a winter holiday! You'll get spoiled and want to come every year! It really is heaven!

Cheers,
Debbie
