Hello Betty,
About you telescoping pole,  why don't you find a pipe that fits into your
existing pole and drill holes in the existing pole and the sleeve so you can
put bolts through it to secure it.  Then you can adjust it to any length you
want.  I don't understand the plastic thing.  Good luck on that one.
