[drivingpairs] Re: Tandem Question's

I too would be interested in joining the tandem.
I have a pair that I would like to drive tandem.

I also had a thought about a training exercise
for tandem driving.

I have a pair of horses that I work together in a
round pen. I used to work them separately, but
for time efficiency I work them together now. It
also am able to control each horse by voice as if
I am driving them or lunging them. I say their
name and what I want them to do. It has worked
great as I feel like when I do hook them together
I will be able to communicate with my voice to
each one separately.

They will trot or walk right behind the other as
if they are in tandem. I am getting an idea what
kinds of problems I might have. Both horses seem
content to follow the other and usually don't
pass. I was concerned the filly might kick the
gelding if she was in the lead, but she seems
fine with him right behind. She is the younger,
lighter and more high stepping of the two and
would be my leader if I had to choose one.

I know that they will be different once they are
hooked and there is no fence, but I thought it a
good way to get an idea if the horses are going
to get along, if the leader is going to kick the
other or the wheeler bite the leader or whatever
they might do!
