FWIW - there are caribeaners that have a safety latch. It is used to prevent
that very same latch from coming open. It takes the thumb and forefinger to do
a quarter turn and then the latch opens. Very quick, very safe. I use them
exclusively when my life is hanging on that rope rappelling and would consider
nothing less for driving.
