Hello from Sandy, Oregon. My name is Julie Burchstead. I have enjoyed
driving in various ways over the past several years, Welsh breed shows,
pleasure driving, parades, weddings, and CDE's. I own Welsh of
various sections, and we occasionally raise youngstock. I have had the
benefit of excellent instruction along the way, but hope I never stop
learning. I have a mother, daughter Section D Welsh cob pair that seem
to be good candidates for a tandem. I had the pleasure to see Jay
Hubert drive his tandem at the Beavercreek CDE a few years ago, and
that caught my interest. In the past several years at the
Oregon-Washington events, his has been
the only Tandem I have seen. Neither my instructor, Karen Delano at
Blue Heron Lipizzans,
or I know of anyone locally here in the Portland, Oregon area with
tandem experience.
I am looking for some guidance to get started exploring this
possibility. I had a chance to
talk briefly about it with Hardy Zanke at the Happ's CDE earlier this
summer. He recommended the book Driving at Tandem, which I was able to
purchase through ADS. I would be very much interested in finding
someone to correspond with about how to cobble together harness to see
if we have good prospects. I have heard about a clinician who was
able to do this not long ago at a local clinic at Whip and Spur. I
don't
want to invest in Tandem harness until I am sure we are truly headed
that direction. Any help or contacts would be most appreciated.
Most sincere thanks,
Julie Burchstead

PS: I am new to the list and a bit technologically challenged. I
thought I had successfully subscribed, but have received no postings
since I thought I had subscribed.
This is my second attempt to post. If this letter is redundant, I
apologize. If you do respond to it, could you respond to my private
e-mail as well...just in case I have not yet gotten onto the list
properly. I do have a scamblocker, but I check e-mails that show up
there, for any new addresses that get caught there unnecessarily.
