[drivingpairs] SV: adjusting reins

Hi I agree to your point of view, and I understand exactly what you =
mean . I=B4m raised and trained for 7 years with Michael Freund, Germany =
very familiar with Aachenbach. He learned me just what I wrote, while we =
still don=B4t know how balanced are the horses?, How much driven are =
they? have they ever been in to pair before with other horses - there =
are several questions.How much is the driver familiar with haeing the =
horses in balance for a single. In Paris (WC-sept) I actually drove my =
horses 6-6 in the dressage but in the warm up we choose (Help from =
Michael Freund) to drive them 9-9 to let them find their own space =
before we tightened them up. It=B4s fun isn=B4t it with driving...new =
things every day. New horses etc.

I think we must get a bit deeper into Achenbach now as I am afraid that =
this=20
might be confusing to some without more explanations, so forgive me if I =

interject a few points:=20

First unfortunately I have found different harness makers using =
different=20
ends from which they count the holes (and stamp them with numbers), some =
start=20
from the hand end, others unfortunately from the bit end. So let's =
assume and=20
hope we all start counting from the hand end. Next, when you say, hole =
8 on=20
Flygill, do you mean, the coupling rein going TO Flygill should be =
buckled in=20
hole 8, and hole 8 counting from your hand, or the coupling rein on the =
back of=20
Flygill - which then is the coupling rein going to Mosa, and I hope you =
mean=20
that one.

And, when you say, Mosa "get's more air", that could be taken, as =
meaning=20
that you now gave Mosa one more hole, thus Mosa is longer in the reins, =
and I=20
hope you don't mean that, as that I thinks would be exactly the wrong =
thing in=20
our case, as MOSA is more eager already, is pulling more already, is =
more=20
forward already, which is the entire crux of the problem. Mosa must be =
held BACK,=20
not let more forward. Flygill must be let out to go more forward. BUT, =
if you=20
just mean, that first BOTH horses should have more room, which I think =
you=20
mean, as you also ask for the pole straps to be left a hole longer, and =
THEN also=20
give both some more room in the reins, thus not buckling 6/6 to start =
with,=20
but with your example of 8/10 that would mean as start 9/9 (counting =
from the=20
hand) to give both more room, yes, that I can see (although from 6/6 to =
9/9 that=20
is A LOT, going three holes forward, I would not go that far, or you =
will=20
drive your horses very far off the pole, very wide, very lose, or very =
big, very=20
long necked, and wide horses) and then after going to 9/9, we then must =
again=20
take Mosa's coupling rein, the one leading to Mosa, resting on Flygill's =
back,=20
one hole back, and the one leading to Flygill laying on Mosa's back one =
hole=20
forward, so that Mosa is held back and Flygill left out to do more work. =
Then=20
ok with 8/10 position, but again, I think from 6/6 to 9/9 is a lot, and =
mine=20
instead of yours with 8/10, mine would only be 5/7 (with Mosa on the =
right=20
side), or 7/5 with Mosa on the left.
I hope we all get this clear - at least those of us who use Achenbach =
reins,=20
the others might be harder pressed to follow our hole count, including =
those=20
who unfortunately don't even have that many holes, or have them at all=20
different distances. But I am happy that some seemed to have followed it =
yesterday.=20
Great, as that's one of the main basics of good pair driving. Good luck =
and=20
think it through to all.
