Don't change anything, if it's working well. Looking through some pictures
now I see that on most four-in-hands - where we have the same situation - it
seems to depend on where drivers come from. All top level CDE Four-in-Hand
drivers use the buckle in throatlatch roger rings, whereas most people in
Coaching
use the welded on bridle rosette roger rings. I think that the welded ring is
probably the more traditional British style (so for show ring Tandem would
probably be the preferred style ?) whereas the buckle in throatlatch probably
comes from the Continent as a more modern better practical solution. So you
take
your pick on what's more important to you.
With the buckle in Throatlatch Roger rings, the leader reins are not even
close to the ears, but usually run below the blinder, or at times next to it.
For
those times it's good to have stiff blinders that are not easily pushed in
by the leader rein. Also make sure to get your wheeler used to the view of a
leader rein going there in front and below of his eyes.
