[drivingpairs] Rein Clamps

You only use them for four-in-hands or tandems. Not for singles or pairs. And
for fours more so than for tandems. I don't have time for it right now, but
make a note and will explain more. (Get the Mischka book in the meantime, then
I can point to some pictures and show you with the four-in-hands how they use
the rein clamps. -:)
For the marathon (and cones) most clamp together the two right reins and hold
them in the right hand, and two left reins and hold them in the left hand.
Those that drive Dressage two handed do the same for dressage. The finer
purists
that drive Dressage Achenbach style don't use a rein clamp, and the not so
fine purists that still drive Achenbach do use one rein clamp and clamp all
four
reins together to hold them easier in their left hand and then don't have to
cramp the hand together so much to hold the reins without having any rein
slipage. Other than for the two handed method, where almost nobody with fours
drives anymore without rein clamps (or buckles doing the same thing), that's
really the other big advantage of the rein clamp in my opinion: That beginners
can
learn driving four-in-hand (and tandem) Achenbach style easier without having
to get hand cramps, but instead can concentrate on their rein handling. (And
whoever wants can get some rein clamps from me - contact me privately)
