Don't know about driving a pacing pair, but I have driven pairs of
TWHs....Quite weird. Also very hard to get two that "gait" together.
Sitting behind them could get me dizzy, as they both would "gait" in
different timing.
Historically, pacing times could be broken by putting a trotter and a pacer
in pair harness to race against the clock. Several registered Morgans (also
registered as "Standard breds", means they could "trot to the standard time")
did this to set world records.
