Thanks so much to everyone who has offered advice. What a friendly group and so
helpful. Yes, I am a somewhat experienced mini single driver. We won the local
fair in a class of 8-9 so I think we doing something right. Although I haven't
hauled to any of the big mini shows in Delaware yet. The local shows don't have
mini driving classes for pairs. I actually am more interested in driving the
pairs in parades. It is very hilly here in Maryland and the two would be a lot
stronger than just the one. As it is, I get out of the cart and let my 12-year
old niece drive up and down the hills while I walk along-side.
I live in Maryland and just found a driving club on the internet that is having
a show near Leesburg, VA this weekend. I'm taking everyone's advice - I'll
attend and take lots of pictures and ask lots of questions. The minis' harness
is a little different than horse harnesses so I'm hoping there will be some
mini pairs there. This club does dressage, cones, and another event. 50 miles
isn't a bad drive to gain so much knowledge!!!
I had to laugh at those of you who did the same thing I did - took the harness
out of the box and scratched my head at all those straps and buckles. I ended
up taking a clinic at Goucher College in Baltimore where they made us harness
and unharness the Welsh ponies until we could do it in our sleep. What great
hands on training!
If there is anyone in the Maryland area that drives pairs or minis, please
write. This is so much more fun than doing Halter and Obstacle classes...
except maybe for Obstacle Driving!!!! We haven't tried that yet!
Thanks again for making this newcomer feel so welcome. - c
