Need more room in the carriage room!
Two rare stunning antiques available:
Circa 1895 Durant-Dort phaeton with retractable/removable leather parasol
top. Completely restored by Christian Petersheim, this cutunder Brewster green
with black body and pinstriping, almond tufted upholstery, lamp brackets and
brass toe board rail will get you noticed. In competition, this vehicle has
captured 8 out of 8 turnout classes including two Grand National titles a the
Morgan Grand Nationals. Durant -Dort was a carriage manufacturer in Flint
Michigan, their factory is now a historic landmark. Of the two partners,
William C.
Durant and Josiah Dallas Dort, they became successful enough in carriages that
Durant bought an ailing little car company called Oldsmobile and later
Chevrolet. He then founded a small company called General Motors. Interesting
to
think that the founder of GM may have had his hands on this carriage. The only
other Durant-Dort we have seen is in the Ford Transportation Museum in
Dearborn Michigan, and it's a two wheel vehicle. The carriage comes with two
sets of
singles shafts. If you're ready to capture some turnout classes this
carriage will complement your style. $5995.00 to the right home. Picture
attached.

If you are really over the edge in antiques, then consider this circa 1890
Charles S. Caffrey Victoria of the George IV style, serial # 8824. This
carriage was completely torn down to the last nut and bolt and redone. Over
$16,000
in professional restoration work went into this. This is an interesting piece.
With the coachman's seat up front it would be classified as a Victoria,
however the coachman's seat is removable, making this more of a George IV,
driven
from the passenger seat. We researched this quite a bit through the Carriage
Museum of America, and there were carriages known not as a Victoria or a George
IV, but as a Victoria of the George IV style. Charles S. Caffrey of Trenton
NJ, was known for taking the best carriage designs of the day and adding their
own "Je Ne Sais Quoi" and this carriage reflects those design elements. Can be
driven singles and pairs, has been driven with our 14:3 size horses. This
vehicle was used to capture two Grand National Morgan Horse Championships in
pairs driving. Pictures on request!
