On the topic of pair harness adjustments ;) -- maybe this is a far out
question, but fire away!
If I have, for training purposes, a very experienced horse, and a young total
greenie, and I want the experienced horse to do most of, if not all of, the
pulling, and just have the greenie pretty much in "bondage," but not really
pulling, is there some best way to adjust the harness to accomplish this? The
greenie would, in this case, be a significantly shorter horse lengthwise (think
arab vs standardbred), though not all that different in height, if this helps.
They would just be on the flat, walk and slow trot on a dirt road, and only
take a slow, big, turn at the walk to change direction. Not more than about
1.5 miles journey at best.
Standard fixed wooden pole pair assembly, with nice, light, but stable,
doctor's buggy in tow :) ... the doctor's buggy is so light I can pull it
myself up a small hill (but not easily :))! I never feel like it will tip
over, though I'm sure if I really try, I'd succeed...
Also, one more time, I think it was brought up before, but that was several
dozen pages ago in my horrid mail directory -- I'll soon have access to a full
size pair harness (and two ladies who have competed with it -- eureka! one is
my future roommie's mom), but the greenie will be too small for it, and I would
rather use my smaller arab-size single harness for him for this training. What
can best be done to safely, temporarily, convert a single harness to a pair
harness (keeping in mind that I have, at this moment, personally never used a
pair harness)? Both cheap and expensive options welcome :) ... and places to
purchase said conversion pieces, if needed, ... thanks!!! And given that the
little guy doesn't even need to do much pulling at first, is there another,
different, way to temporary convert for when he doesn't pull?
Thanks, guys!
