[drivingpairs] Friesian with Bradoon

Hey there-- I took a good close look at the Friesian in the Driving Digest.
(With my glasses on...) It sure does look like a bradoon attached to the
overcheck. It looks loose enough, but then if you take another look the
horses head is up. Then take another look at the pole strap and it looks
like the horse is sitting back also. So I would surmise that someone threw
something up in the air or whatever to get the horse to pick up his ears for
the photo. That would probably account for how slack the overcheck is
because his neck is up and back. Other than that, I don't know much about
using a bradoon this way. When I first got my Haflingers they came with
draft harness (that's how they had always been driven) and a draft horse
trainer had me put small bradoons on the overchecks. The horses absolutely
hated it and didn't need it and I pitched them. I attached the overcheck
chains to the Liverpool bits but very loosely, so they just hang there and
look traditional for when I drive my hitch wagon.
It is lovely harness in the photo, though, isn't it?
