[drivingpairs] For once this political note was worth posting

When someone's politics affects the participation of list members in
international competition, that's not politics.  It's attempting to rescue
the future of a sport.  No Olympics --> no glory --> no funding --> no
future.  In a world of fewer and future vast tracts of land to enjoy
horses on, we need an Olympics.  It's a travesty to fund hours and hours
of SWIMMING, which is so incredibly boring I want to scream, esp. as NBC,
on tape delay from Sydney, insisted on mixing it with the eventing, and
then have organizers say the eventing was too expensive, and we should
just have the swimming -- no wonder no one watches the Olympics anymore. 
Should we combine with the X Games instead?  Believe me, I gave NBC an
earful about the swimming ruining my viewing of the eventing.  Do I have
to use a VCR to enjoy a sport?
