[drivingpairs] Flyer modifications...another long one

Hi Helen,
I m the one you sent photos to before, on the modifications you made to
groom's seat. its nice to know your flyer is still growing strong - mine is
in its second season now. Your Flyer is slighty different than ours,
although a seat like you added might still be possible -- the biggest diff
is that there is a rail behind the driver's seat on mine (permanent) that
the groom can hold when standing on the back step-( but that makes him lean
forward, while sitting backward on the box )- and really leaves him very
little room.
Adding the seat as you did might still work, although, when we started to
build the prototype for that seat, what we discovered was that only a small
edge of that seat would actually be able to rest on the box. very
tippy.didnt want to make permanent modifications to the carriage itself.
my groom/navigator aka husband ect said he'd rather just hang on to the rear
step, for now. So we need to look at other ways to attach & stabilize the
seat. However, if we ever get our larger pair actually going together, the
Flyer won't really be big enough, so I keep thinking that i should just keep
an eye for a little different carriage... for somnetime in future.
I would love to see photos of your pole attachment - Is it like a yoke?
{photos of this: "crab and
inserted a swivel end in it, which is held in with bolt or pin. Had a bar
made with a ring on each end for the snap shackles. The bar is attached to
the swivel with a pin"} (?) I have been photographing some different
configurations at shows...mine seems very unstable compared to some - & I do
have issues wi the girls pulling away from the pole. my pole is also hollow
, and the crab will come off, so i imagine there are a lot of
possibilities. Thanks, Nancy in NH
