Sorry we don't have a personal site. We have had
some pictures posted on some sites, like the Cleveland
Bay group at Yahoo. There is a pair picture on
WorldWideWarmbloods, in the Cleveland breed section.
If you are an ADS member, our Cleveland Sporthorse
4-in-Hand got into the magazine, as part of the photos
of the June Metamora CDE this year. There are some
other driving single and pair Clevelands around.
It is pretty nippy weather here in Michigan now, so
we are not doing much. Have a young horse to start
lessons on, for next year.
We work our young horses on both sides of a pair,
with the experienced horse. Haven't had a kicker, but
will now be more alert about sitting behind the
experienced horse!! Thanks for the warning Sterling
and Hardy.
We usually do some single work before the pair
hitching, perhaps that has done the trick on our
horses in the past. We also have tie (straight)
stalls for everyday on the working horses. NO ONE
kicks there. UNACCEPTABLE!! With us behind them so
much on the ground, they expect good things when
bumped from behind, and just move over to let the FOOD
in! Seems to transfer to the carriages. Driving, if
bumped or goosed behind, they just move over, tucking
their rearends. A bump is expected to have a
different reaction from horse than a push, like
breeching. The ties stalls seem to make things easier
for them. Teaching without needing extra work. Lots
of touching as you work around them, learning commands
painlessly and for a purpose they understand. We
really like the tie stalls a lot. They are turned out
in fields, for most of every day, except for ice or
sleet.
