If lengthwise, how did
you cope with the wheelwells?
My little carriage only tracks 48 inches, so it rolls in between the
wheelwells, back up against the cab of the truck. With the pole removed, the
poll assembly stuck out very little; not enough to hit the bumper-pull trailer.
Will your carriage fit cross-wise in your trailer? If so, maybe you can put in
a side door in toward the front of the trailer. I forgot: Do you drive
ponies or horses? My horses are pony-sized so my carriage isn't very big.
The body of my carriage was the actual proto-type of the Flyer, so the wheel
track is much narrower than the ones they make today. ;-) And it doesn't
have a telescoping axle. Back in the dark ages, it hadn't been invented yet.
Wheel wells: Some time ago, I saw a "c" channel ramp, which went over the
wheel wells, so the carriage rode on top of the wheel wells, wheels in the "c"
channel. Haven't seen any in ages, but I'm sure a good welder could make you
one. You have to push the carriage a bit more to get up on top of the wheel
wells, though. If your front and back axles aren't the same width, that
probably won't work. If they are, then the "c" channel can be attached at
either end, making it one piece. The carriage will ride a bit higher (on top
of the wells), but the sides of the truck bed will be high enough to hold the
wheels firmly in place. Hope this helps.
Anyone else have ideas for Stepahanie?
Helen
PS Do you have a short or long bed in the truck? That could be the
difference. My truck had a short bed (and Ford kept making them shorter), so
the last time I carried the carriage in the bed, it just fit....if the carraige
was perfectly straight. Otherwise, I couldn't close the tailgate, until we
manipulated the vehicle so that it was perfectly straight. ;o(
