I had no problems with swaying with the extra long trailer tongue, but I did
use anti sway bars.
The U channels have dawnward supports welded on them (like legs) which did
have small wooden "feet" on which they are mounted, so the wooden feet rest in
the pick-up box. They also have "arms" welded to the top which go to the side
of the pickup box to the three holes where tie down hocks can be mounted and
are attached under the screw in tie downs. It is all very sturdy, as it has to
be to hold a 800 lbs pair marathon vehicle. The plan was also to mount an
electric winch in the front to pull up the carriage, but we never got around to
that, even though I had the winch, but before we got that completed we upgraded
to a new gooseneck trailer. But for one season and one eastcoast trip we did
use the ramps then without a winch, just pushing the carriage up by hand and it
all worked fine.
