[drivingpairs] CDE Rules

well this is actually a Query, but i noticed my subject line is rather a
good statement.... CDE RULES!!! :O sorry... obviously my tiny mind cant
handle much more holidaying. anyway, I have a question: Rules for
driving a pair: (in CDE) I think I must have (?) my navigator with me for
Dressage & Cones... and someone just did get back to me, that he will have
to sit up front, as my carriage has no rear seat. I would so much rather
have him standing on the back step, rather than on the front seat with me.
However, I have a Flyer, wi room for 2 on the front seat, wi a removable
step behind. wi single, wi same carriage, I have always removed back step
for dressage & cones, and gone in alone. I know on the Eagle(cousin to the
flyer), there is an optional dickey seat - i dont think that is available
for the Flyer. Anyone ever added a rear seat to a carriage?
My pair have started pulling the sleigh - my husband just finished
building it over the holiday. The younger mare is quite bouncy - not her
usual self at all - but has been well behaved so far. She seems alarmed by
the noise when we have to cross a road, but just tucks her self together &
rushes a bit. Her partner is my very reliable single pony, and she could
care - her first time with a sleigh, too, but she very quiet.
Over the holiday I also put my hitched my young guy (who drives
single) in pair for the first time - It looked a bit strange, he is 16 hands
and Mrs Reliable is 14 hh, but the went really well. She is so bossy that I
think he is pre-programmed to do whatever she does. We just cruised the
roads for about 45 minutes, a ouple short trots, I was surprised at how good
he was. His 'Someday pairmate' we ground drove and introduced to the easy
cart (yeah - just looking at it, not pulling.)
Hope everyone is staying warm & dry, and having a good season. nancy
