Brass and Bronze are both alloys, therefore mixtures or metals. These
mixtures can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and from time period to
time
period. Brass is softer than Bronze.
I have several bronze side piece bits with stainless steel mouth pieces.
I have seen a brass bit break at the side piece and have had a brass buxton
bend.
However, I have also seen several stainless steel three slot liverpools
fracture where the metal at the first slot was thin. I will only use those
with
two slots.
Any metal alloy can be made hard or soft, or brittle. A good metallurgist is
needed to do so. Casting techniques can also affect the quality of a cast
metal piece.
