I just want to put in a plug for the Beginners Driving Clinic in Southern
Maine on March 21 that will be given by Robyn Cuffey who coauthored with
Listqueen Jaye the book The Essential Guide to Carriage Driving. I think this
clinic differs from many I have been to in several different ways. First of all
it is indoors so can be held in all types of weather. 2nd she uses 5 types of
harnesses with 5 types of carriages, 5 very different horses and spends alot of
the clinic explaining all the choices that beginner drivers have and some of
the advantages and disadvantages of each harness and cart. Each participant
gets to harness and drive (with an experienced driver) one of her horses. The
auditors get to participate in everything but the actual driving, which only
participants can do. Vehicles include wire wheels, road carts, Flyers, Marathon
carriages, etc. I would highly recommend any beginner drivers or those wishing
to learn more about driving to attend. The cost is only $50 for participants
and $15 I think for auditors which is quite a bargain and there are two
sessions to accomodate more people. It fills up very quick so if you are
interested you can contact me and I will give you more info.
