[drivingpairs] ADS Rule Changes : please comment if you are an ADS member

As Linda says, most of these rule changes are "housekeeping" in nature. We wanted to remove things which pertained ONLY to pleasure driving from the general rules (blue pages), and put them in pleasure driving (green pages).

Any animal that can perform the required gaits of 3 trots and a walk may enter a pleasure class. If an animal/breed does not trot, management is free to offer classes for example for Paso Finos only, who then would not be at a disadvantage over those breeds who do show a true 2 beat, diagonal trot.

Draft Horses are defined in the green pages, p. 32, as any horse weighing 1500 lbs and over, not just recognized breeds of draft such as Percherons and Clydesdales. Again, management can offer classes for draft types only, which are not required to show a strong trot; or draft horses may enter those classes for lighter breeds, where they will be asked to do all 3 trots.

Friesians are not considered a draught breed. Gaited horses would be anything that has a lateral gait : Rocky Mountain, Walking Horses, Paso Finos, Standardbreds who pace. . . not sure they show 5 gaited horses at a rack or slow gait to a carriage though !

To keep this multiple related, as multiple divisions at pleasure shows are often not as large as the single pony division, we have also proposed that "ribbons won in a class of 3 or less entries will not affect horse or driver status" therefore avoiding pushing people from Maiden to Novice to Open sooner than they might be ready for.

I think you are misreading what is going on. The rule you are seeing is an
old rule and has been in the Rule Book for sometime. The changes in the
Wheelhorse concerning it state that it is a housekeeping change, ie they are moving it to the more appropriate SECTION of the Rule Book. It is NOT a new rule. Nothing is going to change with regard to what it says. For Pleasure
Shows, organizers have the option of offering a section specifically for
Draft Breeds and appropriate classes. The same applies to gaited horses. I know people who drive gaited horses and can't compete because of not having
