[drivingpairs] 1st tandem lesson



Well I had my first actual tandem lesson with an instructor who has =
driven
plenty of tandem. I=92ve had these two ponies hooked tandem about 8 =
times now
and it=92s going well. But to learn from someone who has done this a lot =
and
even driven CDEs in tandem was just the greatest. He showed me several
little things to change which instantly improved our turns and my =
ability to
keep things straight. I got to work on both styles of rein handling and =
to
see how each one applies to different situations. Then I got him to =
drive
the ponies a bit so I could see it from the ground. He hasn=92t actually =
had a
tandem of his own for a couple of years now, but he quickly had them =
snaking
nice little patterns around the ring, and he pronounced them =91fun=92 =
when he
handed the reins back to me, and said that they could certainly do the
hazards. Well of course THEY can, but I=92d never get my coordination =
quick
enough for that. My only goal is to get around a pleasure class without
looking like a fool.
