Hi Betty
Thanks for the heads up about the 2/4th Machine Gun Battalion web site.
Major Albert Ernest Saggers commanding officer 2/4 Machine Gun Battalion "E"
Company. Was the husband of Lily May Saggers (nee Stephenson) (my 1st cousin
twice removed) They had two children Ian and Joan. Ian wrote a book about his
fathers experiences as a prisoner "To Hell-Fire Purgatory and Back" based on
Major Saggers diary's written while he was a prisoner of war. Sadly Lily died
in 1955, as a result of falling down a stairway on board the Strathaird
returning with her sister from England.
I hope this is of interest.
Regards
Laurence Ernest Stephenson

Subject: [dps-chat] 2/4th Machine Gun Battalion
Hi All,
For anyone interested in reading about the men who served in WW2 in
the 2/4th Machine Gun Battalion, and were taken prisoner in Singapore,
hopefully here is a link attached to the new 2/4th web site..
My father Private R.R. Lymn was taken prisoner when Singapore fell,
and was listed as missing presumed taken prisoner. Dad was taken to
Japan as part of the J Force, and it was 3 years and 10 months before
my Mum knew that he had survived.
Cheers,
Betty
