Hi Bev,
You might find something of interest in this article on tent boxing -
http://press-files.anu.edu.au/downloads/press/p72561/pdf/article0114.pdf or ;
here http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/38569823 ;
The would have been records of his nickname in the WA Amateur Boxing
Association, but it was defunct by 1911 according to
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article57715422 ;.
Try contacting boxing WA - http://www.boxingwa.org.au/contact/ to find where ;
the historical records might be?
I think it might also be useful to keep looking through Trove – you may be able
to match up the surname & nickname in a newspaper article.

Hey everyone
Lyn Todd are you copying?
Years ago I was searching for answers to one of my ancestors William
Richardson and his famous boxing belt –
I have now proved it – totally because he is written up in several books – the
latest being “The Blackest Streets” by Sarah Wise published by Vintage in 2009.
But the chase back in the early days when it was bare fist boxing and then with
gloves goes way before 1919 - there were references to WA and the eastern
states Dinilaquin? (Spelt that wrong but my age) – which referred to WA
boxing. Remember that the descendant in NZ wouldn’t answer any of our queries.
Hey Lyn you are younger than me – do you remember?
Anyway perhaps a contact with Danny Green in WA could answer some of those
queries. I think he started as an amateur.

I am trying to find out more about my father’s amateur boxing days. He boxed
for his school (CBC Kalgoorlie) pre 1919 and I have a couple of newspaper
notices about his prowess, but according to my mother, he continued to box,
quite successfully, when he moved to Perth. Infortunately, he fought under an
alias and no surviving members of my family know what this was. Apparently,
boxing was not a subject considered suitable for women and children!
Does anyone know of an archive of boxing records anywhere, or who I might
contact to pursue my enquiries (I came upon your name on a message board ca
2000, Rob, dealing with a similar query....did you ever find out more?).
Regards,
Bev
