Hi John,

Where was the British army person serving?

I came across Indian records this last week. Included Baptism Registers of Chaplains. I got the impression they were mixed as one was Church of Scotland chaplain and I'm fairly sure some of the others were Church of England - but they may not have included others.
Transcriptions on Ancestry, Images of Registers on FindMyPast from memory.

I'd look if I knew what who I was looking for.

There are other military records on FMP as well.

Hi all,

I am trying to track the family of a British army person from the
early 1800's.

He, and his family were all Roman Catholic yet there is no clear trail
of marriage and christenings for them.

Every possible record found in the parish records (as shown in the
IGI) is filled with doubt as there is no collaboration. Added to that
is the fact that half the children have no records at all and there is
no marriage. I can accept that the woman in the case may have been
either a camp follower or was the widow of a soldier killed in the
line of duty as she appears to be several years older than the soldier
I am researching.

SO!!! The question I have is based on the fact that a good Catholic
would ensure that all his children were in a state of grace (ie
christened) yet since there are no regular parish records, could the
regiments have had a chaplain who performed the religiuous duties for
the regiment? If so, would there be a written record of those
sacraments. The who and the when. Then of course, if 'yes', then where
are they kept now?

Any ideas?

regards, John
