Hi Archie
Looking at the whole record of John Smith #43
You need to see the book" Records and Badges of Every Regiment and Corps in the
British Army".
I have had them put it on the 3rd floor Battye Library (probably in the Gene
Section near the WAGS desk
Set of bookcases alongside of the computer bank for Genes. Dewey No 355.134 CHI
- thick blue book.
As your man signed up under age in 1812 but was a corporal by mid 1815 = of
Bernard was born c1815 think they are still in Ireland.
But check the book out - it will tell you where the regiment was at around the
time period you are looking at - and try - nli.ie -on the internet in case the
records have appeared there.
Get back to me privately if you need to.
Gillian

Hi Gillian,
This is Color Serjeant John, the father of Bernard Smith (long term PCC
Councillor and noted Catholic around town)
Born 2.1.1795, Bernard was born apparently in Srirling in 'about 1815'
and educated at the Monks School in Dublin
Cannot find a marriage for John and his wife Elizabeth Mary? Cherry?
Other children John b 1816, Mary? b 1816, Michael b 1821, Catherine b 1829,
Maria 1830 all before he arrived in Australia. Elizabeth was born in 1835 in
Perth.
This is an attempt to prove the birth of Mary )1st daughter). I have found
'A' Mary Ann Smith - b 1817 (attached) and I have Mary's death Cert (attched)
and there is NOTHING to connect the two except a single reference in the Dict
of WA Biog.
It is also an attempt to find any reference to the rest of the family in any
records. I've done the Genes Reunited thing and got a 14 page army record
which has no personal stuff at all :(
It is all a puzzlement :)
regards, John
