G'day BEV ( & ALL) ...
t'other day I broke an old rule and posted an off-topic ditty about a
farmer and his sheep
If you missed it, our clever MacBEV identified it for what it was worth:--->
Thought this bush ballad rang a bell....hunted through my CD collection,
and can confirm it was originally called 'After Ewe', from a collection
of Bush Verse by Salmon Gums poet, Peter Blyth, the bloke from
'Bugga-Up-Downs'.
According to the CD jacket, Peter had a book,'Gold Fever and Other
Diseases' aka 'The Life and Rhymes of a Ten Quid Immigrant' on sale
through the ABC bookshop.
The other poems on the CD are equally entertaining.
<---
As is the nature of such things, I mentioned it's newly re-aquired
pedigree to the genie friend in Wollongong who shared it with me AND
sent it to a couple of old genie mates in England.
My English couple, who celebrated 60 years of wedded happiness in
September, appreciated it for what it was ... a good bit of humour at
last and Avril went further and wrote us two extra verses :---->
I loved the poem from down-under. That's real Aussie humour for you. I
did think it might need a little epilogue though. How about this ........
In the nearest bar, the worried rep
Recounted what he saw.
The locals thought it funny
And gave out a loud guffaw!
"Don't worry mate" the barman said
As he poured the rep a dram
You could have seen much worse than that
If that ewe had been a ram!
<----
So there you go folks ... it just had to be shared!
Cheers as always, ROB!!
