First word, from Don:
When my web-friend Ann Hardin wrote in her blog that her
new boyfriend had sat through her daughter's junior high
choral concert I responded 'How gloriously mundane. It
looks as though you're onto something'. Ann got a laugh
out of my response and that's what I hoped for but I
wasn't really joking. The best things in life seem
incredibly mundane while they're happening. It's only
in retrospect that we see how wonderful they are. A few
months ago, when my daughter mentioned that her youngest
son was very upset because he'd misplaced his tooth that
fell out, I dug down to the bottom of my sock drawer and
recovered a note she wrote, in crayon, twenty some-odd
years ago, to the tooth fairy, explaining that she'd
misplaced her tooth that fell out. That note was one
of my most prized possessions but I gladly gave it to
her. When I pass from this earth I won't leave my
children much in the way of material wealth. My hope
is to leave them a far more valuable legacy of love.
I recently told another web-friend that love, the real
thing, is life's 'Brass Ring'. That's what we're all
reaching for. May your eye be sharp and your grasp
be true.
See you next time.

When I was in U.S. Army basic training there were a list of
items I was required to keep in my footlocker, one of which
was a shaving brush which I still have. About twenty years
ago my oldest girl gave me a boxed set of after-shave
lotion and cologne with a shaving mug (soap included) in
the box. At some point thereafter I found I was out of
canned shaving lotion. I rummaged around in my bottom
dresser drawer and found that old never-used shaving brush
and mated it with the never-used shaving mug. Since then
I've never shaved any other way. I love my mug and brush.

A Little Humor.
A man and a friend are playing golf one day. One of the
men is about to chip onto the green when he sees a
long funeral procession on the road next to the course.
He stops in mid-swing, takes off his golf cap, closes
his eyes, and bows his head. His friend says:
'Wow that is the most thoughtful and touching thing
I have ever seen. You are truly a kind man.'
The man then replies: 'Yeah, well, we were married
for 35 years.'
One afternoon, a wealthy lawyer was riding in the back
of his limousine when he saw two men eating grass by
the roadside. He ordered his driver to stop and he got
out to investigate.
'Why are you eating grass,' he asked one man?
'We don't have any money for food,' the poor man replied.
'Oh, well, you can come with me to my house',
said the lawyer.
'But, sir, I have a wife and two children with me!'
'Bring them along!' said the lawyer.
He turned to the other man and said,
'You come with us, too.'
But, sir, I have a wife and six children!' he answered.
'Bring them as well! ' answered the lawyer as he
headed for his limo.
They all climbed into the car, which was no easy task,
even for a car as large as the limousine.
Once underway, one of the poor fellows said,
'Sir, you are too kind. Thank you for taking all of
us with you.'
The lawyer replied, 'Glad to do it. You'll love my place;
the grass is almost a foot high!'

The most important people on the Internet, for you and
I as computer users, are software developers. The world's
coolest computer, without software, is like a car without
fuel. It might look great, but what can it do?
It doesn't matter who produces the software you love
and use regularly, the developers of that software
need and deserve your support.
A bit of advice from Internet veteran Bayard J. Fox:
New computer users are often in awe of the things you can
get without cost on the Internet. There can be hidden
costs for the unwary. Use a 'throw away' email address to
register, and be constantly on guard against giving away
personal information. Use a firewall, and provide only
the barest minimum of information on questionnaires.
