First word, from Don:

In the last few days, Lisa and I have each made a trip to
the hospital emergency room because we found ourselves
suddenly in respiratory distress. My own trip was just
last evening. We were both sent home with prescriptions
for antibiotics, cough suppressants and anti-inflamatories.
On our way home last evening an idiot hauling a huge trailer
pulled out in front of us. We were able to come to a full
stop without hitting the trailer but the pickup behind us
wasn't as fortunate. He rear-ended our car. I walked to
the nearest phone (we don't have a cellphone) and called
911 to report the accident. Then I called my daughter.
A short time later our son-in-law arrived to give us a ride
home. Today, our car is a total loss, we both have sore
muscles in our necks but none of that matters really.
We're alive and we still have each other. Thank you God.

(From our other-brother Bill Lanoue)

One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex standing
in the foyer of the church staring up at a large plaque. It
was covered with names and small American flags mounted on
either side of it. The six-year old had been staring at the
plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside
the little boy, and said quietly, 'Good morning Alex.','Good
morning Pastor' he replied, still focused on the plaque.
'Pastor, what is this?' The pastor said, 'Well son, it's a
memorial to all the young men and women who died in the
service.' Soberly, they just stood together, staring at
the large plaque. Finally, little Alex's voice, barely
audible and trembling with fear asked, 'Which service,
the 8:30 or the 10:45?

Last word, from Lisa:

At the end of a very busy week, it seems we still have
elves (we don't know how else to describe our frequent
good fortune). We arrived home last night only slightly
worse for wear, let the dog out, made a pot of tea, took
our meds, a shower and got a good night's sleep. We woke
up to a renewed realization that this is all you can hope
for; a good life, a great love and health.

A little luck sure doesn't hurt, either.

'Til next time,

The most important people on the Internet, for you and I as
computer users, are software developers. The world's coolest
computer, without software, is like a car without fuel. It
might look great, but what can it do? It doesn't matter who
produces the software you love and use regularly, the developers
of that software need your support.

A bit of advice from Internet veteran Bayard J. Fox:

New computer users are often in awe of the things you can get
without cost on the Internet.  There can be hidden costs for the
unwary. Use a 'throw away' email address to register, and be
constantly on guard against giving away personal information.
Use a firewall, and provide only the barest minimum of
information on questionnaires.
