Don's Patch #72 from http://www.don-guitar.com June 15, 2007

First word, from Don:

The first issue of this ezine was published on July 1, 2004 and
it has been in continuous publication, twice monthly, since then.
This issue marks 36 months, the end of our third year.

This ezine is free of commercial advertising and we try, as best
we can, to eliminate political, religious, cultural or ethnic bias.
Our "agenda" is to enlighten, entertain, amuse, inform and/or
educate our readers.

Once each year, in our June 15th issue, we offer our readers the
opportunity to show monetary support for this publication and this
is it; here's your chance.

If each of our readers gave us a U.S. penny, a hundredth part of
an American dollar, for each issue they've received this year, that
would add up to 24 cents per reader for the year and with 394
readers that would add up to $94.56 which is almost a hundred
dollars more than it costs us to produce this ezine twice a month
with enough left over to pay for our website hosting and several
bags of our favorite soft mints from the dollar store *grin*

Yeah, we don't need much so we aren't asking for much but
any amount you'd care to donate will be greatly appreciated
and give us incentive to keep on keeping on.

The donation page is here:

http://www.don-guitar.com/donations.html

If you'd prefer contributing some links to this publication, in lieu
of currency, that'd be really great with us too. Here's the "how
to" on that topic.
http://www.don-guitar.com/descriptivetext.html

Lastly, as always, we really enjoy hearing from you whether or
not you send us links or have suggestions. We write this ezine
for you; it's up to you to tell us how we're doing.

Last word, from Lisa:

We've had some eye-opening experiences following the
You-Tube videos of Peter Oakley in the past few months.

http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=geriatric1927

He has taken good advantage of his world-wide popularity
to further the cause of age awareness in the UK. He's
lent his name and enthusiasm to The Zimmers, a group of
40 seniors in the UK whose average age is 78 years old.
They've produced a recording of The Who's "My Generation",
hitting #26 in the Top 40 in its first week, with no air
play. Unfortunately British radio stations refused to
play it, complaining that since they weren't young, it
would be a ratings disaster. What a mistake, they're
backpedaling like mad and the Zimmers' video on YouTube
has been viewed 3,055,544 times and still counting
as of June 13.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqfFrCUrEbY

We hope that the sentiment and awareness spreads to the
US, too. We'd like to ask you to support the Zimmers by
visiting their web site,

http://thezimmersonline.com/

MySpace page (166554 views),

http://www.myspace.com/thezimmersband

watching their video and, if you love it, consider
purchasing the single, which was recorded at Abbey Road
Studios. Currently they have plans to record a CD,
which we intend to purchase as soon as it's available.
All profits go to age related charities.

Old is gold. Thanks, folks.

The most important people on the Internet, for you and I as computer
users, are software developers. The world's coolest computer, without
software, is like a car without fuel. It might look great, but what
can it do? It doesn't matter who produces the software you love and
use regularly, the developers of that software need your support.

A bit of advice from Internet veteran Bayard J. Fox:

New computer users are often in awe of the things you can get without
cost on the Internet. There can be hidden costs for the unwary. Use a
"throw away" email address to register, and be constantly on guard
against giving away personal information. Use a firewall, and provide
only the barest minimum of information on questionnaires.
