Don's Patch Issue #2004-10-01 from http://www.don-guitar.com
Wow, I'm knocked out here. Following my last issue several of
you went to the website and made donations, bringing the
cumulative total up to $180. Thank you all. You've helped
me catch up on some bills and given me a great deal of
incentive.
My new job (stocker in a supermarket) is physically demanding
but I'm getting used to it and enjoying the work even if it is quite
a departure from things I've done in the past. Life is change.
Change is good.
Remember, your input is always welcome. I value your suggestions
and comments, and I'm always willing to help you find answers to
your computer and Internet questions.

I have a copy of every ezine I've written, beginning with the February
15th, 2002 issue of the Maxpatch ezine, in a folder on my computer.
When I encounter a website that "seems familiar" I search through
my back issues for it's URL. If it's been a year or more since I listed
a site, or the site is a particularly good one, I sometimes list it
again (mentioning that it's a worthwhile "rerun"). I don't check sites
sent in by readers in the same manner. I figure the site is worthy of
another mention if a reader liked it enough to send it in.
In the last few issues I've been too busy with other things to list
the links sent in by my readers but I gave myself an extra day
with this one, posting it on the due date rather than the day before,
in order to give myself time to insert some reader contributions.
Here's a few links sent in by reader John L.

The most important people on the Internet, for you and I as computer
users, are software developers. The world's coolest computer, without
software, is like a car without fuel. It might look great, but what
can it do? It doesn't matter who produces the software you love and
use regularly, the developers of that software need your support.
A bit of advice from Internet veteran Bayard J. Fox:
New computer users are often in awe of the things you can get without
cost on the Internet. There can be hidden costs for the unwary. Use a
"throw away" email address to register, and be constantly on guard
against giving away personal information. Use a firewall, and provide
only the barest minimum of information on questionnaires.
