  Hi all,

I did some more tests. Results (too long for a mail)
  are at http://www-isis.u-strasbg.fr/bug/snippet/

The first series (unpatched) were run with a revision of dokuwiki
that did not contain Chris' last UTF8 fixes. The second series
(utf8-patched) were run with a current revision (synced today).

The first series confirm that both opt1 and opt2 are faster... ca.
30 times faster! When a difference exists between opt1 and opt2,
  opt2 is better than opt1.

The second series tell the same enhancements when going from orig
to opt1 or opt2. No big difference between opt1 and opt2 (opt1 is
  slightly better than opt2).

Runs were done by searching a word (test, start, license,...) 60
times in pages pool of 1100 UTF-8 coded files using either orig, or
  opt1 or opt2 method.
